Finisce al secondo turno l'avventura del Forest nella Carling Cup 2008/2009, nell'incontro giocato Mercoledi' sera al City Ground contro in Sunderland i Reds sono stati sconfitti per 2-1 dopo i tempi supplementari.
In vantaggio al 60' grazie ad Ernshaw, il Forest e' stato riacciuffato all'86' da Bardsley, e il goal del definitivo 2-1 e' stato realizzato da Healy al 3° minuto del primo tempo supplementare.
